Today marks the 70th anniversary of the Algerian declaration of independence.
An event that began a brutal 8 year armed struggle in which 1.5 million Algerians died but that ultimately successfully removed the French colonial regime and 1 million French settlers from Algerian soil.
The struggle represented the first time African soil was successfully liberated from European settlers through force of arms.
Could this be why Palestinians love Algeria so much?
